Kilwinning Rangers 9 Lennox Youth 1
Premier League
  Saturday 15th December 2007

The young Buffs bounced back from their Scottish cup disappointment with a stunning display against an on form Lennox team who had scored 9 goals against Kirkintilloch Rob Roy last week.

Kilwinning had started the game badly, when a defensive mix up had allowed the Lennox striker clean through on goal ,to shoot past McGoogan and put his team 1-0 up with only 3 minutes gone.

It took the new look 21s side a few more minutes to settle down, and then what a show they put on.

The equaliser came in 12 minutes from  a great move involving Kris Gilhooley and Andy Bell, with  Gilhooley pulling off a sublime dummy to put Bell through on goal, and he made no mistake as he drilled his shot into the bottom left hand corner.

Neil Sanderson was brought down for a penalty 5 minutes later, which Boyd Millen confidently dispatched to give Kilwinning the lead.

Kilwinning now stepped up the pressure with Bell shining in the middle of the park and new signing Ian Seymour causing the Lennox side all kinds of problems on the right with his non stop running and bustling style of play.

The 21s extended their lead in 38 minutes with a rare Cammy Mckinnell goal, Kilwinning were now in control with the Kilwinning midfield dominating and Kirkwood putting in a flawless performance in his new midfield role, with the ever reliable McGeachie and new boy Hay providing cover.

Lennox almost pulled one back a minute before halftime when only an amazing acrobatic save from Rab McGoogan kept Kilwinnings 2 goal advantage.

Kilwinning started the second half looking for more goals and Ally Sommerville was unlucky to see his shot cleared off the line after wrong footing the Lennox defence with a cheeky drag back.

The Kilwinning side did get their fourth 3 minutes later when Jimmy Kirkwood rose to power an Andy Bell cross into the Lennox net.

With their confidence up there was some great football on show now as Kilwinning stroked the ball around , searching for another goal, and it came in 63 minutes when a slide rule pass from Neil Sanderson put Kilwinning Captain Kris Gilhooley through goal and he placed his shot beyond the advancing keeper to score his tenth goal of the season.

Lennox were reduced to ten men in 68 minutes when their number 3 was perhaps harshly dismissed for late tackle.

Kilwinning were not letting up though as debut boy Jamie Glancy and Ally Sommerville combined well before Glancys shot was blocked on the goal line. Boyd Millen went close a minute later as he and Bell executed a well worked free kick that went narrowly over.

The sixth goal came in 75 minutes courtesy of  Kris Gilhooley as he gracefully rounded the keeper and stroked in his 11th of the season.

Kilwinning were reduced to ten men as well now as Boyd Mullen was bizarrely red carded for complaining to the referee about a high tackle he had been the victim of.

The young Buffs were 7-1 up before the unfortunate Mullin had even reached the showers with Cammy Mckinnell scoring another of his now not so rare goals with a tremendous header.

Kilwinning were awarded a second penalty in 85 minutes when Andy Bell was brought down after some delightful footwork had carried him past his marker, with Mullin already off Bell stepped up to score his second of the day and Kilwinnings eighth.

It was a definite case of  the very young Buffs up front for Kilwinning in closing minutes with teenagers Wales, Glancy, and Patrick now leading the Kilwinning attack and it was fitting that the goal of the game should come from one of the“baby” Buffs.

It was young James Patrick who took the honour as he picked up the ball 30 yards out on the left looked up and saw the Lennox keeper off his line and executed an outrageous chip over the stranded keeper and into the Lennox net to cap an almost perfect day for the Kilwinning side.

Kilwinning Rangers 3 Shamrock Boys Club 2
Scottish Cup (Round 4)
  Saturday 24th November 2007
  (Match Abandoned After 87 Minutes)

This classic Scottish cup 4th round tie descended into chaos in the dying minutes of the game on Saturday. As the disgraceful behaviour of several Shamrock players and a large section of their unruly travelling support, forced the referee to abandon the tie with the young Buffs cruising towards the quarterfinals with a 3-2 lead and only three minutes left on the clock.

Up until the disgusting scenes that ended this tie, it had been an outstanding hard fought match with some great play from both sides.

The match exploded into action right from the kick off with Bell, Gilhooley and McKnight all going close in the opening minutes whilst only a great save from McGoogan at the other end had prevented Shamrock from going one up on the breakaway.

Defender McGeachie was unlucky not to open the scoring with a rasping 30 yard shot that scraped the outside of the Shamrock post on the quarter hour, but the breakthrough finally came with 20 minutes gone, when a well worked move found Bell in space 18 yards out, his shot struck an outstretched Shamrock leg and looped over the helpless Shammy keeper and into the net, 1- 0 Buffs.

Five minutes later the young Buffs had the ball in the net again after a Chris McKnight rocket had rattled the underside of the bar and Kris Gilhooley was first to react and stick the rebound away, but he was adjudged to be offside and the goal was disallowed.

There was a taste of things to come on the half hour mark after midfielder Andy Bell had lunged into a clumsy tackle on Shamrocks number 6, Bell was instantly mobbed by Shamrock players, subs and officials, before the referee restored order and booked Bell for his reckless challenge.

As the Kilwinning side continued to push for a second they were caught on the break when Shamrock were gifted the ball in midfield and broke away up field for a shock equaliser.

Kilwinning started the second half strongly, with Mullen and McKnight combining well in the middle whilst Somerville and Duncan were causing problems on the flanks, but it was Shamrock who took the lead on the hour when their captain powered a header past Mcgoogan from their first corner of the game.
Kilwinning were level again one minute later when good work from Bell released Sanderson who coolly rounded the keeper and tucked away the equaliser.

Kilwinning now began to dominate. Gilhooley and McKnight both went close before super Ally Somerville conjured up a goal worthy of winning any cup tie, as he picked the ball up wide on the left and ghosted past the Shamrock defence before unleashing a sweet left foot shot from the edge of the 18 yard box that squeezed in between the keeper and the near post.

The game began to descend in to a series of fouls and unsavoury off the ball incidents, as some of the Shamrock players now began to lose their discipline.

Kilwinning continued to push for more goals though, and Kris Gilhooley had a great chance to make it four with only 7 minutes remaining but the Shamrock keeper pulled off a great save as Gilhooley looked to have rounded him.

Then the game exploded on the 87minute mark as the Shamrock captain unleashed a horrifically high two footed tackle on Kilwinnings Mark Duncan as Duncan attempted to put a cross in. The referee was left with no option but to red card the Shamrock number 5.

As the referee attempted to get the game restarted Kilwinnings Andy Bell appeared to be punched in the face by a Shamrock player, as the referee was dealing with this incident a section of the Shamrock support spilled onto the pitch and were joined by Shamrock players and Substitutes in attempts to attack some Kilwinning players and officials.

The situation left the referee with no option but to abandon the match and leave Kilwinning Rangers 21s Scottish cup aspirations in limbo.

Saturdays Referee has to be commended for the calm and professional manner in which he dealt with unbelievable chaos that ended Saturday’s game, without his level headedness the situation could have been far worse.

Kilwinning Rangers 2 Busby Amateurs 2
West of Scotland League
  Saturday 10th November 2007

The young Buffs side put in one of their best performances of the season so far on Saturday, but somehow came away from this incredibly one sided match with only one point.

Kilwinning had opened the scoring in the 16th minute, when Neil Sanderson raced in and touched the ball away from the Busby keeper before executing an inch perfect chip to Graeme Broadfield at the far post. Broadfield made no mistake as he buried his fourth goal in three games taking him up to 7 for the season.

The lead was to last a little over a minute as Busby delivered a classic route one sucker punch as ex Kilwinning player Fraser found himself through on the Kilwinning goal and finished well to make it 1-1.

There then followed a catalogue of chances as the Kilwinning laid siege to the Busby goal.
Broadfield had a long range shot go narrowly over, then Gilhooley weaved through the Busby Defence but his shot was wide.

Gilhooley broke through the Busby line again a minute later, this time he cut it back to Neil Sanderson, who’s shot crashed off the bar Broadfield was first to the rebound but his shot whistled inches wide.
On the 30-minute mark Busby broke away on a rare foray into the Kilwinning half, but Mcgoogan came sharply out and smothered the ball on the edge of his box.

Ally Somerville was next to go close for Kilwinning as he raced onto a clever through ball from Gilhooley, but the Busby keeper did well to get there first and clear the danger.

Gilhooley and Broadfield both had good efforts saved by the Busby keeper, then a Cammy Mckinnell header scraped the outside of the post.

Broadfield came close again when he cut in from the right and skipped past three Busby defenders before blasting in a near post shot, that the Busby keeper somehow blocked.

Kilwinning were pushing hard for a second goal, but it was Busby who got it, as once again they caught the Buffs on the break. Henderson facing four attacking players on his own did well to force the ball out to the left, but neither he nor Mcgoogan in the Kilwinning goal could do anything about the top drawer finish that followed as the Busby man curled his shot into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Ally Somerville set the tone for the second half, as he powered through on goal with barely a minute gone, but his shot was went high. Gilhooley, Sanderson and Broadfield all went close, but Busby somehow managed to keep them out.

The breakthrough came in the 75th minute when Sanderson was tripped in the box after a great passing move with Gilhooley .

Boyd Mullen stepped up and blasted the penalty into the corner of the net with the Busby keeper headed in the other direction.
With 15 minutes left, Kilwinning went all out for the win, with some great moves involving Gilhooley and Wales, who had come on for the injured Mcknight.

Then with seconds remaining Duncan broke clear on the Busby goal and hit a curing shot from 20 yards, but the big Busby keeper somehow got his fingertips to Duncan’s shot to touch it wide.

The disappointment and frustration was plain to see on the Kilwinning faces at the final whistle, but they can take some consolation from their impressive performance.

Kilwinning Rangers 9 St. Andrews B.C. 1
Scottish Cup Round 3
  Saturday 3rd November 2007

The inevitable finally happened at the Kilwinning showpark on Saturday afternoon, as the collection of talented individuals that make up Kilwinning Rangers 21s clicked and came together as a team, and what a show they put on for the local crowd.

Kilwinning wasted no time, going ahead 1-0 in the first minute when Rocks put in a great ball for Broadfield who turned and blasted it past the St Andrews keeper.

Just two minutes later it was 1-1 as Cammy McKinnell slipped and left the St Andrews striker clean through on goal, the St Andrews man managed to squeeze his shot below the onrushing Mcgoogan for the equaliser.

Kilwinning took a few minutes to recover from the shock equaliser and then the show really began, with the 21s prodigal son Chris Mcknight controlling everything from the midfield and Kilwinnings very own M&M,s, McKinnell and Mcgeachie dominating in the air.

The second came when Mark Duncan picked up the ball on the right and powered through the St Andrews defence before unleashing a thundering shot at goal, which the keeper could only parry, and there was the predatory Broadfield to hammer in the loose ball for his sixth of the season.

Neil Sanderson popped up with the third with a well-placed header as Kilwinning mercilessly dominated the game.

Mcgeachie was next to try his luck with a shot from 30 yards, but the St Andrews keeper pulled off a stunning acrobatic stop to deny him.

Gilhooley and Sommerville then combined well on the left and Gilhooley found himself in space at the edge of the box, but his delicate curling shot went narrowly wide.

On the stroke of halftime Broadfield got the ball 40 yards out and drove through Saints defence before cutting the ball back for Rocks to score the fourth.

The young Buffs started the second half with another early goal, when Captain Gilhooley broke through one on one with the keeper; there was never any doubt of the outcome as he placed his shot beyond the keeper to make it 5-1 Buffs.

Kilwinning brought on Stibbs for Sommerville and Henderson for Mcgeachie now, but the pace and performance of the young Buffs side was showing no signs of slowing as Sanderson went close again with another header.

Kilwinning now brought on Patrick for his debut, just in time to see the Kilwinning side go 6-1 up as the luckless Saint Andy’s number 2 turned a Gilhooley shot into his own net.

Kilwinning continued to press for further goals and Stibbs and Bell were linking well on the left, but the next goal came from a well worked move on the right that was finished by an unstoppable Mcknight thunderbolt 7 – 1 Kilwinning.

St Andrews to their credit never gave up, but any threat they posed was swiftly dealt with by Henderson and Patrick.

Andy Bell made it eight with a stunning individual goal as he shimmied past the Saints defence and skilfully curled his shot into the top corner.

With the final minutes ticking away Kilwinning were awarded a penalty when the mercurial Sanderson was sent crashing in the box after yet another jinking run. Steven Stibbs stepped up and buried the penalty to round of a thoroughly impressive 9-1 victory.

On a day with so many candidates for the award Chris Mcknight just shaded it for his virtuoso midfield performance.

Kilwinning Rangers 2 Milton Y.I.  2
West of Scotland Premier League
  Saturday 27th October 2007

A lacklustre second half performance from the 21s saw them squander two precious points at the Sportsclub showpark on Saturday.

Kilwinning had already survived an early scare when the referee awarded Milton a soft penalty for an innocuous challenge in the box with only six minutes on the clock.

Fortunately for Kilwinning the Milton player blasted the spot kick wide of Mcgoogans right hand post.
This sparked the young Buffs into life and they went ahead two minutes later when Andy Bell drove down the right wing skipped past the Milton tackles and cut the ball back for Kris Gilhooley to calmly slot away his seventh goal of the season.

Kilwinning were playing some great football against the driving wind, and almost scored a second in 20 minutes when Ally Somerville sent Gilhooley clear with a classy through ball, Gilhooley, s chip went narrowly wide.

Gilhooley turned provider 2 minutes later when his pass found Andy Bell in space at the edge of the Milton box, but Bells shot blazed over the bar.

Wales was next to go close with a long range effort just passed the post, then a spectacular overhead kick by Somerville was touched over, just on half time.

Kilwinning were caught cold 5 minutes into the second half when Milton latched on to a loose ball in midfield Ferguson broke down the left and cut it back to his waiting striker who made it 1-1.

Neil Sanderson tried to regain the lead 2 minutes later with a shot just over the crossbar, but Milton were beginning to pressure as the Kilwinning side were being outmuscled in midfield.

Broadfield and Chapman were introduced for Wales and Sanderson, Then Duncan for Somerville, the substitutions paid off in 83 minutes when Chapman Knocked a through ball on to Broadfield who blasted it past the Milton keeper to put the young Buffs 2-1 up, but Kilwinning could only hold on to their lead for two short minutes as Milton equalised through a speculative free kick launched into the Kilwinning box and scrambled into the net.

Kilwinning pressured for a winner with tireless running from Duncan and Broadfield in particular but it was Milton who almost left with all three points, only a full length diving fingertip save from Mcgoogan prevented them from doing so in the final minute.

Kilwinning Rangers 1 Harmony Row  2
West of Scotland Premier League
  Saturday 6th October 2007

An impressive performance from the 21s on Saturday against League leaders Harmony Row.

Unfortunately their failure to convert chances into goals was to cost them dearly in the end. Kilwinning had started brightly with the Harmony row keeper being called into action to save from Broadfield and later Gilhooley but it was the Govan side who took the lead when they were awarded a penalty with 35 minutes gone Buffs keeper Mcgoogan could do nothing as the well taken penalty was hammered beyond his reach.

Kilwinning started the second half pushing for the equaliser and were controlling the midfield and beginning to create chances in and around the Harmony Row box. Harmony row were still causing problems on the counter attack though and managed to double their lead on the hour mark when a headed clearance fell to the Harmony Row 6 on the edge of the Kilwinning box and he hit a sweet volley past the diving Mcgoogan.

Kilwinning almost pulled one back minutes later but were foiled by a great save by the Harmony row Keeper followed by a goal line clearance. The young Buffs did pull one back with 80 minutes gone when Andy Bell was sent sprawling in the penalty box.

Bell dusted himself down and confidently converted the penalty. Kilwinning laid siege to the Harmony Row goal for the remaining 10 minutes, but there were to be no more goals for the unlucky Buffs side.

Kilwinning Rangers 0 Campsie Black Watch 6
West of Scotland Premier League
  Saturday 15th September 2007

It was painful viewing for the Kilwinning section of the large crowd at the Sportsclub showground on Saturday ,as the young Buffs were summarily taken apart by a fast and fluent Campsie Black Watch side.

Kilwinnings day had started badly before a ball had been kicked, when club captain and top goal scorer Kris Gilhooley failed a late fitness test.

Kilwinning lost the toss and kicked off into the strong wind, and it took only 3 minutes for Campsie to take advantage of the blustery conditions.

Buffs Keeper Mcgoogan opted for a short throw to left back Henderson rather than attempt a kick into the oncoming wind, unfortunately the Campsie forward read his intentions and nipped in to rob the Buffs defender and stroke the ball past the helpless keeper.

5 minutes later it was 2-0 as Mcgoogan , Kirkwood and the Campsie striker crashed together in the box going for a high cross, the ball broke kindly for the Campsie man and he coolly slotted the ball into the empty Kilwinning net.

Campsies third came from a cross to the back post where the Campsie number eight slid in to provide an impressive finish.

As the wind kept the Kilwinning side pinned in their own half, Campsie continued to push for more goals and were rewarded with a fourth on the half hour mark, when Kilwinning keeper Mcgoogan took to long dealing with a pass back and was dispossessed by the Campsie forward who made no mistake with his finish.

A fifth was to follow before half time from the impressive Campsie number 7, as he picked the ball up on the halfway line and skilfully weaved his way through the Kilwinning side before placing his shot beyond Mcgoogan.

Apparently the Campsie 7 is being tracked by senior side Queens Park and his performance on Saturday certainly merited their attention.

Campsie started the second half, at the same high tempo as they had finished the first, and only a brave block by buffs keeper Mcgoogan stopped them making it six in the 50th minute.

The sixth goal did come, 5 minutes later when Campsies silky number 7 floated an inviting cross towards the back post where the oncoming Campsie striker  powered it into the net.

Kilwinning suddenly sprung into life on the hour mark a dipping shot just over the bar from Sanderson was followed by a slick move a minute later, when Chapman chested down for Broadfield who slipped it out to the onrushing Sanderson who thundered his shot narrowly past.

Kilwinning were beginning to look like themselves again as Mullen took control of the midfield and sparked off a flowing move involving Duncan Broadfield, and Sanderson before arriving at impressive debut striker Chapman who was unlucky with his powerful strike.

It was Campsie,s turn to be pinned in now, although they were unlucky to be denied a penalty in one of their few breaks upfield, when Kirkwood appeared to bring down the Campsie forward in the box.

Kilwinning continued to pressure and Mcgeachie was unlucky when he unleashed a scorcher from fully 40 yards, which the Campsie keeper just managed to turn around the post.

There was to be no consolation for Kilwinning though as the referee sounded the final whistle with the score at 6-0.

With no game next week for the young Buffs, they have two weeks to recover, reflect and hopefully rediscover the disciplined mix of fight and flair that has been the Kilwinning 21s trademark.

Neilston Juniors 3 Kilwinning Rangers 1
Trophy Centre League Cup
  Saturday 8th September 2007

The young Buffs crashed out of the Trophy centre league cup on Saturday as they suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Neilston Juniors. Kilwinning had started strongly, Andy Bell went close with a free kick after 10 minutes, a long range effort from David Rocks was saved at the near post a few minutes later, Graham Wales was next to go close with a shot just over the Neilston bar.

It was Neilston who opened the scoring though when a clumsy challenge by David Rocks resulted in a Neilston penalty. Buffs keeper Mcgoogan had no chance with the well-taken penalty and Neilston went one up. Captain Gilhooley tried to rally his rattled team mates and led by example two minutes later when he received a clever through ball from Chris Hunter topped off a great run with an unstoppable shot to make it 1-1 going in at the break. Kilwinning started the second half where they had left off.

Neil Sanderson went close in 52 minutes when his dipping shot shaved the top of the bar, but the game began to slip away from Kilwinning as it descended into a period of petty fouls and pointless bookings for both sides.

Neilston were  first to regain their focus and two quick goals in 60 and 65 minutes put them firmly in the driving seat. Kilwinning then introduced Franny Mcgeachie for Darren Russell and Steven Stibbs for Graham Wales as they tried to claw their way back into the game.

The late introduction of reborn striker Ross Chesney looked like it might pay dividends for the Kilwinning side, as the big man began to give a physical presence upfront that has been lacking this season. The Neilston defence held firm though and as the final minutes ticked away a frustrated Jim Kirkwood saw red for dissent. A sore defeat for Kilwinning but there were some positives.

The return of long term injury victim Mcgeachie gave the defence a more composed look and news that last seasons player of the year Cammy Mckinnell is set to return from injury should give the young Buffs a more settled back four, add to this the rediscovery of Ross Chesneys striking talents and next Saturdays clash with Campsie Black Watch at the Sportsclub show park is shaping up to be a cracker.

Kilwinning Rangers 0 St Knightswood Juveniles 0
West of Scotland Premier League
  Saturday 1st September 2007

A solid performance from Kilwinning earned them a hard fought point at the Sportsclub on Saturday against a strong Knightswood side. The Kilwinning defence was bolstered by the introduction of David Rocks to central defence and Chris Henderson at left back, this and the tireless support of Andy Bell in midfield gave the Kilwinning defence a settled look, that been missing in recent games.

The young Buffs had their first chance in 3 minutes when a clever Boyd Mullen free kick picked out a late David Rocks run, Rocks headed back across goal but the Knightswood keeper intercepted before the ball could reach Neil Sanderson at the back post. Mark Duncan was next to go close but his header went inches past the outside of the post. Knightswood were proving dangerous on the counter attack, but Buffs Keeper Mcgoogan was up to anything that did manage to get through the Kilwinning defence.

Buffs captain Kris Gilhooley looked to have broken the deadlock in 21 minutes when he carved through the Knightswood defence but his shot went just wide. Duncan got in at the back post for a free header moments later, but was judged to be offside by the Referee.

Knightswood began pressuring now and almost got their chance on the 40-minute mark when only a crunching tackle by Rocks on the edge of the box prevented the tricky Knightswood number 8 having a clear run on goal. Knightswood went close again in the last minute of the first half, but Keeper Mcgoogan ensured the game remained goalless at half time.

Darren Russell replaced the injured Chris Henderson at half time, and was called into action immediately as Knightswood pushed for an opener, but with the Kilwinning defence holding firm and Mcgoogan commanding his box, it took until the 68th minute before Knightswood created a real chance, when the Knightswood number 11 spun away from his marker and lashed a shot past the oncoming Mcgoogan but his shot hit the upright and spun harmlessly away.

This seemed to spur the Kilwinning frontmen into action and after several dubious offside calls Broadfield broke through and won a crunching 50/50 with the Knightswood keeper, but as the ball rolled towards goal the Knightswood number 5 got back in time to clear.

Gilhooley broke through next but was left writhing on the ground after a crashing challenge from the Knightswood keeper, the Referee amazingly awarded the free kick Knightswoods way. Shortly afterwards Broadfield received a yellow card for enquiring as to the reasoning behind some of the  decisions being awarded.

Then in the closing minutes an excellent through ball from Bell sent Broadfield through one on one with the keeper, Broadfields shot looked to be in all the way , but the Knightswood keeper pulled off a great save to ensure his side a share of the points.

Glasgow Amateurs 3 St Kilwinning Rangers 1
West of Scotland Premier League
  Wednesday 29th August 2007

Kilwinning started this match on the back of two defeats and their intention to stop the rot was immedietly evident when Kris Gilhooley looked to have scored with only 2 minutes gone. Gilhooley cut inside the Glasgow defence and launched a blistering shot which crashed off the underside of the bar and appeared to land well over the line, but Kilwinnings current run of bad luck continued as the referee surprisingly waved play on.

Two minutes later Kilwinning were presented with another chance when they were awarded a penalty . Gilhooley placed it to to the keepers right but the Glasgow keeper did well to read it and tip the ball past the post.

Kilwinning were given a warning shortly after when the Glasgow side sprung the Kilwinning offside trap and keeper Mcgoogan did well to block the resulting shot ,but he had no chance minutes later when an identical move resulted in Glasgow Amateurs taking the lead.

Kilwinning then hit the post from a Broadfield shot as they pressured for an equaliser . A Kris Gilhooley effort flashed across the face of the goal moments later, but the next goal was to come from the Glasgow side. The Kilwinning defence looked to have done well and Glasgow forward looked to be well offside as the ball was played through to him but the referee waved play on and the gratefull Glasgow forward made it 2-0.

Kilwinning then pulled one back on the half hour mark with a sublime free kick ,curled over the wall and into the top corner by Andy Bell.

Graham Wales replaced Graeme Broadfield on the hour mark as Kilwinning pushed hard for an equaliser ,then on the hour mark impressive debut boys Steven Stibbs and Darren Russell were replaced by David Rocks and Mark Duncan as Kilwinning continued to pressure.

The pacey Glasgow forward line were still causing problems on the break and Kilwinning keeper Mcgoogan had pulled off a couple of stunning saves but there was little he could do in the 78th minute when an unfortunate stumble by Jim Kirkwood allowed the Glasgow striker clean through on goal, and the Glasgow player made no mistake with a well placed shot past the unlucky Mcgoogan.

Glasgow were reduced to 10 men in  injury time when their number 11 saw red for a kick at Rocks , but it was too late to have any effect on the match and Kilwinning suffered their third consecutive defeat for the first time in the clubs history.

On a more positive note , Ally Frew ,Darren Russell and a flawless Steven Stibbs were impressive on their starting debuts. Saturdays match against Knightswood is shaping up to be a cracker.

  Saturday 25th August 2007

Kilwinning found themselves on the losing end of a 9-goal thriller at Cardonald on Saturday. The young Buffs were caught cold by a well taken free kick with only 3 minutes gone, but they got right back into the game and hit back with an equaliser 4 minutes later with Ally Sommerville netting his first goal of the season.

Hillwood took the lead again when the buffs defence were caught off guard by a long throw in and the loose ball was scrambled over the line by a determined Hillwood striker. The young buffs then went 3-1 down when they failed to deal with an innocuous looking near post corner.

Graeme Broadfield pulled it back to 3-2 ending a well-worked move with a stunning finish. Kilwinning started pushing for the equaliser and were presented with  the opportunity for it just before half time when they were awarded a penalty. David Rocks elected for power and blasted his shot straight at the  Hillwood keeper, half time Hillwood 3-2 Kilwinning.

Kilwinning wasted no time in getting the second half underway when Kris Gilhooley equalised with only one minute gone. Hillwood hit back straight away, Kilwinnings trialist keeper could only parry a well-taken Hillwood free kick and the loose ball was swept into the empty net to put Hillwood 4-3 up.

This seemed to spur the young buffs into action as they created chance after chance including a great attempt by Graham Wales, but they just couldn’t get the ball into the Hillwood net.

Hillwood added another on the hour mark when their long throw specialist launched another long range effort into the Kilwinning box the Buffs defence failed to clear, and the ball ended up in the net from the resulting scramble.

Kilwinning were rewarded for their never say die attitude with 5 minutes left, when Gilhooley netted his fifth of the season to make it 5-4, but once again the clock ran out and the young Buffs were left rueing another three points dropped.

Kilwinning Rangers 3 St Peters Juveniles 5
West of Scotland Premier League
  Monday 20th August 2007

A night to forget for the young Buffs as a lacklustre performance saw them lose 5 goals to St Peters juveniles.

It had all started so brightly for the 21s when Kris Gilhooley latched on to a perfectly weighted through ball from Boyd Mullen and rounded the St Peters keeper for the opener in 11 minutes.

The young Buffs looked to be in complete control, with St Peters only real chance in the opening period being a cross come shot that Keeper Mcgoogan comfortably tipped over the bar.

Rocks and Duncan were combining well on the left and only a last ditch tackle stopped them adding a second when a deft one two put Duncan through on goal. Broadfield then won the ball out on the right and sent Gilhooley racing for the touchline, where he cut the ball back to the waiting Neil Sanderson who screwed his shot wide.

Kilwinning were caught flat-footed though when the pacey St Peters forward intercepted a loose ball and raced through on goal. Kilwinning keeper Mcgoogan rushed from his line to intercept the threat but in the aftermath of the collision that followed St Peters had a penalty and the Kilwinning keeper had a nasty injury and a yellow card for his trouble.

Mcgoogan could do nothing to stop the well taken penalty that followed.

1-1 Half time.

St Peters started the second half strongly and made it 2-1 in 53 minutes when a well placed header left the injured Mcgoogan with no chance. A minute later Boyd Mullen limped off after sustaining a Knee injury to be replaced by Ross Chesney.

Kilwinnings bad luck continued as injured Keeper Mcgoogan had to come off 5 minutes later, with no Keeper on the Bench striker Craig Chapman made his debut trying to stop goals rather than trying to score them.

Then the roof caved in as Kilwinning suffered a crazy 5-minute period where St Peters ran amuck and scored 3 goals in quick succession, by the time Kilwinning had regrouped they were 5-I down.

Kilwinning brought on Ally Sommerville to spark some life into the shell shocked team and it almost worked as St Peters struggled to deal with the big midfielders direct style and Kilwinning managed to pull back two late goals by Gilhooley and Broadfield to give a glimmer of hope but the seconds ran out and St peters left Kilwinning with a deserved three points.

Kilwinning Rangers 3 Kirkintilloch Rob Roy 1
West of Scotland Premier League
  Saturday 18th August 2007

Kilwinning Rangers 21s faced a strong Kirkintilloch side in their opening match at Kilwinning sports club on Saturday, but the monsoon conditions couldn’t stop the young Buffs shining through.

Neil Sanderson came close to scoring after 15 minutes from a free kick after classy midfielder Andy Bell had been brought down. A Broadfield header went just over the bar 5 minutes later.

Kilwinning continued to push for an opener and had a strong penalty claim turned down on the half hour mark when a Kirkintilloch defender appeared to handle the ball during a scramble in the six-yard box.

The breakthrough came 5 minutes before the half time whistle when Neil Sanderson burst down the left channel and coolly chipped the oncoming Rob Roy keeper.

Kilwinning started the second half strongly and Boyd Mullen had a shot blocked with only a minute gone, but they were punished soon after when Kirkintilloch latched on to a slack pass in midfield and equalised against the run of play.

A scrappy 20 minutes was to follow, Bell and Rob Roy captain each picked up a yellow card after clashing in the Kirkintilloch box, Broadfield followed them into the book for what appeared to be a fair 50-50 challenge on the Kirkintilloch keeper.

The game was then bizarrely held up for 5 minutes as the Rob Roy players and officials searched for their luckless number 7s teeth, which had been knocked out in a centre circle challenge. The match finally resumed and the toothless Rob Roy midfielder was lucky to escape with a yellow for a wild challenge on Jim Kirkwood.

Kilwinning began to settle down and play football again and were rewarded in 70 minutes when a great cross from Graeme Broadfield was clinically finished by Kris Gilhooley , Gilhooley then turned provider with a classy run and cross that was powered in off the underside of the bar by a Boyd Mullen header.

The Rob Roy captain was given a straight red in the 80th minute for a heavy tackle from behind on Neil Sanderson.

The young Buffs comfortably saw out the closing stages to record an opening day 3-1 victory.
